Warli Painting is a traditional art of Adivasi from Sahyadri mountain range in Western India. People of Dahanu district have been practicing this art for generations. Adivasis make these paintings traditionally for cultural rituals. It has been known as ancient pictorial script of communication. The paintings were originally painted on wall and grounds from cow dung, red mud for background and rice flour paste for painting. Basic geometrical shapes are used to depict characters in these paintings. Humans, animals, birds, trees etc are denoted by various combinations of triangles, circles and straight lines. Accuracy, symmetry and fine curves characterise Warli paintings. Tribal artists display extraordinary skill and precision in painting these masterpiece of art. Typically, these paintings give message of importance of nature, human values, life cycle stages, social values, festivals, biodiversity, simplicity and equality.

People from Adivasi community have adopted to the changing times and have modified their mode of paintings to meet modern design requirements. They have adopted entrepreneurship to make contemporary art forms like bags, purses, apparels, office and home decors are some of their exquisite products. Painting and finishing of these products are done using nature friendly process assuring to meet quality standards & safety regulations along with authentic cultural forms. This product has been hand made by the tribal artists of Waghadi village in the lap of Sahyadri hills of Western Ghats. These artists are supported by an organisation called Adivasi Yuva Shakti (AYUSH). People at AYUSh work on the principle of "giving back to the society". They work on volunteer basis and provide educational, entrepreneurship and developmental support to the tribal people. Shri Sachin Satve of AYUSH is the spearhead of all the activities. It was his efforts that the Warli Art got registered as Geographical indication (GI). This recognition has provided the much needed impetus to the tribal art. GI status provides an assurity of quality and authenticity of the art and product.
